With a professional background in Graphic Design, 4 years ago I made the pivot to focus on UX.
My last role was Senior UX Designer at Sally Europe.
Here's what I get up to day to day
Product Management
At Sally I owned the UX of 10 e-commerce sites across Europe that cater to both retail shoppers and professional customers. Working with the head of customer experience, I set up the UX Goals in the product roadmap each financial year. I then worked with stakeholders, internal and external devs and suppliers to deliver these goals for the websites.
UX Research
As part of a small UX function, we relied a lot on quantitative data at Sally. I used Google Analytics, Crazy Egg and our testing platform Monetate, to get an understanding of how our users are using our platform, and as an indicator of how and where improvements could be made. This analysis included: traffic and user cohort analysis, heat mapping and user recording analysis as well as monitoring A/B test performance. I also worked with our marketing and stores team to capture any feedback from our users.
UX Design
I led the UX process at Sally, following most projects all the way to completed design. This includes ingesting and empathising with research to get the best understanding of users’ expectations and needs, to ideating, wireframing and prototyping solutions. We followed the standard design thinking process that I implemented into the team upon joining.
UI/Graphic Design
At Sally, I directed the look and feel of all UI elements. At the time I joined the company, they had no consistent UI styling, component styling or design system. With my input, the UI across websites has evolved and come a long way, I made it a priority to create a clear design system for the company and worked with the senior dev to connect it to an accessible component library for devs. I still see prototyping all the way to designing UI on the projects I worked on at Sally. I also have a strong background in graphic design for both digital and print.
CRO and AB testing
A/B testing played a vital role in the small CX team at Sally. I owned the UX testing process to aid in our UX research and deliver the best designs possible to our customers as well as improving business metrics.
The landscape of tools available to designers is much more diverse and varied than it has been in a long time. I make a point to always be learning and using the best tools to deliver great UX and designs. Here are some of the tools I use regularly:
I moved into UX in 2021, though a lot of my career beforehand involved UI design, graphic design, product management and even a little bit of game design.
When I'm not designing I'm either playing ridiculously complicated board games, running Dungeons and Dragons in a professional capacity, or most likely working on a new illustration. I do also go outside from time to time.
